1) This
week’s favourites take me back and remind me I’m still a child at heart. I
recently bought a gift for my friend—a plush elephant that says 13 unique
phrases. His name is Trusker and he’s both cute and educational, not to mention
cuddly. I recommend him to all ages, because he teaches you a lot about elephants
and he is a great stress reliever to have around.
2) Green
Angel by Alice Hoffman. I picked up this short teen novel the other day and
read it within a couple of hours. It’s an interesting tale of survival and
finding your way in the most tragic of circumstances. The main character loses
her family to a fire that spreads throughout the town where she lives and must
learn how to go on and heal her own injures from the fire. It’s a captivating read on losing your
identity and trying to become someone else. When Green discovers that just
because she lost those she loves doesn’t mean she has lost who she was she
begins to heal from the inside out. Hoffman’s writing style was my favourite
element of Green Angel. Beautifully written for a short book.
3) Hanson’s
year of daily pictures. I have been enjoying these for a couple of months now,
and they are always the highlight of my day. Many of the pictures, especially
those from 1997 and 1998, take me back to the time when I was eleven and just
discovering my favourite band. Those were some of the most carefree days that I
spent in my youth.
4) Almond
Milk. I still love my two per cent milk, and probably will continue to drink
it, but the last time I went grocery shopping, I decide to try this because it
has a lot less fat and calories. I selected the chocolate flavour and was
surprised to find that it tasted really good. It even goes well with cereal. I
would definitely recommend it if you haven’t already tried it.
5) I came across a children’s playground that was
really beautiful yesterday. There were multi-coloured flowers everywhere, a
swing set and slides, a sandbox and a playhouse. The pathways were decorated in
cute chalk drawings and writings. I wish I could escape back into my childhood,
if only for a moment, so that I could immerse myself in this peaceful place
that looked as though it came straight from the fairylands of imagination.
