Before I started this blog, I tried my hand at Youtube
for a while. My channel wasn’t all that professional looking and neither was
the quality of the videos. It was simply me in front of my webcam reciting my
poetry. I was nervous to film myself but I had some positive feedback and
friends who encouraged me. After a while, I realized that I was more
comfortable expressing myself through the written word than on video.
I watch a few daily vloggers and since starting my blog,
I have an even greater respect for what they do. It can’t be easy to make your
daily life interesting enough for other people to want to watch it. I find that
each week it becomes a little more challenging to think about topics to write
about five days a week, so it’s hard for me to imagine what it must be like to
come up with something insightful to say or to be entertaining seven days a
week. The best days are of course when a major life event occurs and the audience
gets to witness their favourite Youtube personality get married or travel the
world. There are so many reality TV shows out there that don’t reflect reality
at all, however the shows you find on Youtube are about real people and their
triumphs and trails, heartbreak and happiness. They have viewers from all over
the world who interact with them and feel connected to them. They inspire
people to dare to dream and take advantage of opportunities that could lead to
major change in their lives.
I hope that I have something valuable to say with these
blogs and that I can share at least a few unique perspectives that you might
not find elsewhere. Some days are slower than others, but at least my words are
reaching out instead of being locked away where they wouldn’t be able to share
their purpose. I don’t have the skill of being able talk to camera and express
myself through talking to an audience, and this is why blogging suits me best. The
thoughts I carry around don’t translate as well through speaking as they do
when I write them out and can take the time to shape them in exactly the way I
chose.
