1) Ice
cream sandwiches- It’s summer again and so I’ve rediscovered this tasty summer
treat. I just love the taste of vanilla and chocolate together, YUM! Go ahead, treat yourself this weekend. J
2) The
writings of Miriam Toews. I’ve recently read two of her books that were
recommended to me by a friend, ‘The Flying Troutmans’ and ‘Irma Voth.’ Both
were highly engaging and witty, and I enjoyed the way they were written because
it’s different from what I usually read and the change was refreshing. Toews’s
characters are strong and I would have to say that dialogue is her strongest
suit. I read both of these books in just a couple of days and was very wrapped
up in the stories. I love all the adventure and randomness that happens along
the way.
3) This
favourite may be simple, but it made the week that much better—beautiful
weather. While we are technically a few days away from the first day of summer,
it was a gorgeous and warm day. I hope there are many more to come in the near
future.
4) Spending
time helping others. This week I was able to get out of the apartment a bit
more and help a friend with a project. This gave me something different to do
and kept my mind sharp. It also gave me motivation to continue with my writing
and explore new ideas.
5) Thinking
about what inspired me when I was young. This made me revisit the first books
that I loved, the ‘Anne of Green Gables’ series. My grandmother is reading the
first three novels and I’ve really enjoyed discussing the story with her. I’ve
read these eight books by Lucy Maud Montgomery many times, some more than
others. My favourite next to the first one is probably ‘Anne’s House of Dreams.’
I’ve always felt a strong affinity to the character of Anne Shirley and her story
will be near and dear in my heart for all time.
